Deconstruction a media product

Codes and Conventions off Halo Starry Night trailer

The codes and convention of Halo game trailer.

Colours

In this trailer there are dark grey colours as well with a tinge of green throughout. In the beginning of this trailer it starts with really dark blue colours which then quickly flashes into the greys, white and green colours. The colours of this trailer set the mood of a cold dark war zone which the trailer tries to capture. Once the trailer ends the title of the game appears with the "Halo Font" in a blue colour, trying to represent the coldness of the war.

Sounds

The sounds in the trailer start quiet with just the two kids talking, once the flashback ends and the main protagonist is at battlefield the sounds begin with a faint sound of war after an explosion (this is because its made the protagonist slightly deaf after the loud bang for a few seconds) Throughout the trailer there arer gun shot and explosions being heard to show the intensity of the war. When the trailer ends the sound cuts off as it reveals the title off the game.

movement

the movement in the trailer starts still with the two kids lying in the grass, once the flashback ends the moment is fast and intense. The main protagonist is seen sprinting at a fast rate and then jumps into a lot off aliens.

Framing and angles

the camera angle in the begging is slowly spinning as its looking down at the two kids, after a moment the camera pans to behind the 2 kids as they are talking. It then has a close up on the girls face as she asks the question and then quickly changes to where the young boy should be. After, the camera angles are shown in a first person perspective, the camera looks up to see 2 alien fighter ships flying past and showing the explosions around as the main protagonist reaches for his helmet. The camera then shows the main protagonist knelled down and the camera spins around him to reveal a gun in the sand. The camera has shots from the front of the protagonists as he's sprinting.

Mise en scene

The objects seen in the game are two alien ships flying fast through the sky, this is to show the war is happening on the ground and the sky. A destroyed army Jeep is also seen, this represents the impact the war is having on humanity as our equipment is getting destroyed. The assault rifle that gets picked up. This shows our hero even though looks injured, is not ready to give up and will continue fighting the enemy.

There are also aliens and alien tanks seen at the end, the aliens seem to be in better armour then seen before to show the enemy is still fighting and are determined to win the war. The tanks and the lots of enemies surrounding them shows that the protagonist is outnumbered.
Their is also a storm cloud in the sky to show the depressing scene of the war.

Editing

the editing in the trailer starts slow at the beginning with the two kids, it slowly cuts to different angles to show who's talking. After the opening the editing gets intense and fast, with multiply angles being shown and loud explosions and gun fire.
